Charity Support

HOCU recognizes our corporate and social responsibility to our members and community “For A Brighter Future.” Our goals are to partner with our members and support the next generation through participation in programs whose mission is to serve and benefit the youth of our state. The following is a list of organizations we have had the privilege of supporting:

Toys for Tots 2016US Marine Corps Toys for Tots: Over the holidays we participated in Toys for Tots, a program to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December. The toys are given as holiday gifts to less fortunate children in the community.

Moiliili Branch Red Nose Day: On May 26th, our employees showed support by sporting red noses and challenging each other to do goofy things all day like hula hooping, making funny videos, dancing and singing. We raised $300 to the Red Nose Day organization benefiting children and young people in need.

scholarshipHOCU Scholarship Winners: Every year, we award five members $1,000 scholarships to help further their education. Our scholarship program started in 2003 and has awarded (55) $1,000 scholarships to date. We will be accepting applications again starting in January.

March-of-DimesMarch of Dimes Hawai’i: Last year, we were informed of Nicole Macadangdang’s connection to March of Dimes Hawai’i because of her son, Zephyr, and his health issues when he was born. We supported her with a monetary donation from HOCU. In keeping with our purpose of supporting our staff, we planned to walk with her this year as a company and help her raise funds. The event was held on April 23, 2016, and staff from HOCU, family and friends walked with Nicole and Zephyr. It was also the first event we proudly wore our new HOCU Charity Team t-shirt with our new branding logo.

Make-a-Wish Hawai’i: The staff of HOCU selected Make-A-Wish Hawai’i as their charity of choice for 2015. The traditional annual Bake and Lunch Sale, including a small craft fair, was changed to be our Aloha to Kapi’olani Branch sale. This sale was to thank our loyal members and patrons and to invite to our new Mo’ili’ili branch location on Beretania Street. Our other branches, Airport, Federal and Tripler, all participated by selling bake goods and craft items to their visiting members. In addition, we partnered with New A’ala Bakery to sell their packaged baked goods in all our branches through the holiday season and Valentine’s Day. All proceeds and a monetary donation from HOCU totaled $4,000.00 contribution to Make-A-Wish Hawai’i.
